FORT PIERCE, Fla.— U.S. Customs and Border Protection Air and Marine Operations Agents from the Fort Pierce Marine Unit assisted an injured man near the Fort Pierce Inlet Sunday afternoon.
The Treasure-Coast based Air and Marine Operations marine crew responded along with partner agencies to a distress call of an individual struggling with possible head and spinal injuries on the beach. The Marine Interdiction Agents immediately began to provide medical aid as the first responders on scene until emergency personnel arrived and could transport the man to a local hospital.
“Serving and protecting the American people with vigilance, integrity and professionalism is what we do every day,” said Allen Gustafson, Director of Marine Operations for CBP’s Jacksonville Air and Marine Branch. “The Agents in Fort Pierce frequently respond to boaters in distress in this area. These heroic actions are another example of the skill and dedication that I have come to expect from our Marine Interdiction Agents.”
CBP Air and Marine Operations maintains an active and fully engaged cadre of coastal patrol vessels and aircraft aggressively patrolling along Florida’s coast to detect, apprehend and deter smugglers of humans, drugs and other contraband. U.S. Customs and Border Protection operations in Florida includes travel and trade facilitation and securing over 1,200 miles of the coastal border.
